As I wrote about in my last quantum blog post, I believe quantum technologies are going to begin to have a real impact on all of our lives in the not-so-distant future. I think humanity will look back at the next 10 years as the beginning of the quantum portion of the information age, not dissimilar from the computing age which began in earnest in the 1940s. So it is with great pleasure that I announce our continued support for ColdQuanta, the leader in the quantum atomics market. With this latest financing, the company will continue its mission of utilizing cold atoms to bring to reality the benefits and power of quantum technologies to areas ranging from computing, sensing and signal processing to time-keeping.

ColdQuanta has come a very long way since we first invested 18 months ago. Bo Ewald has joined as CEO (which I couldn’t be more excited about), they have been awarded over $7 million of U.S. government contracts for a variety of applications of their cold-atom technology, and established a Madison, Wisconsin branch run by Dr. Mark Saffman to continue their work in quantum computing.

In addition, with it’s unique relationship with NASA, ColdQuanta has its gear up on the International Space Station, and will soon be replacing that with newer, more sophisticated systems. The U.S. military and DARPA have also backed them to drive further development of quantum sensors, atomic clocks, and quantum communications systems.

Congratulations to Bo, Dana, Mark, Paul and the rest of the awesome team behind ColdQuanta. We are really psyched to see where the next few years take us — the possibilities are endless.
